A stunning Calatrava-style dress watch from Movado’s golden era, crafted in 14k yellow gold. The 33mm case features 3-faced lugs and the 11th Geneva Key + FB hallmark of François Borgel/Taubert, the same famed case maker behind Patek Philippe references like the 2466.
The Stern Frères dial is exceptionally well-preserved, with a rich golden patina from years of sunlight exposure that gives the watch incredible warmth and character. Its design, with applied Arabic numerals, faceted indices, and a pearled minute track, is nearly identical to contemporary Patek Philippe dials of the period.
Collectors increasingly recognize vintage Movado as a serious alternative to Patek, with cases, dials, and hands sourced from the same top-tier suppliers and a design language to match. The difference lies mainly in the movement, here the robust automatic bumper caliber 221A, which keeps the watch historically significant yet far more accessible.
This Ref. 46159 offers all the hallmarks of mid-century Swiss luxury. Fine casework, a Stern Frères dial, and timeless proportions; at a fraction of what its Patek counterparts command.
